Reading Schemes

Pupils in Early Years and Key Stage One are taught to read using the Read Write Inc phonics scheme. Each week children take home a copy of the book practised in class - this way, they should be familiar with the new sounds and words in the book when it comes home.

Parents can support children by practising the sounds and words sent home, listening to children read regularly and encouraging children to read for pleasure.

Every child from Year 1 to Year 6 also has a password for our online 'Bug Club' reading programme, meaning they can read books at home and take part in online quizes to test their understanding of the text. Lunchtime Bug Club sessions take place three times each week, allowing children with no internet access at home an opportunity to read online.
