School Admission

Admissions

We understand that the choice of school for your child is very important. We actively encourage visits from all prospective parents. Please ring the school to arrange a visit and to learn more about St. John's.

Reception 2024
Children start school in the September after they are four.
Our school admits children in accordance with Newcastle City council's procedure for school admissions, where parents apply to the Council and are allocated a place if available. Please click below for details

Apply for a school place - Newcastle City Council

If you wish to join our school during the school year or join a year group other than Reception,  please contact School Admissions at Newcastle Civic Centre through the link above to complete an in-year admissions form. School will then contact parents either to make an offer of a place, or to explain that there are no places available in that class.

We are always happy to help if you have any questions or concerns regarding any stage of the admissions process.

Where classes are full (26 in Nursery, 30 in all other year groups) we operate an over-subscription criteria to manage the waiting list for places:

-A child with an Education, Health and Care Plan, where the school is named on the Education, Health and Care Plan.
-A Looked After Child
-A child with a sibling already in the school
-Distance from the school (straight line measure)

Any child not successful in securing a place at the school will be placed on the waiting list and parents will be kept up to date with the status of the application each term. Parents have the right to appeal to the governors if they wish. Advice on doing so can be found on the Newcastle City Council link above. There is a right for people to object about the policy to the Schools Adjudicator (OSA). See the Schools Adjudicator website for more information on how to do this.

St John's Primary School's governors have agreed to follow the admission code set out by Newcastle City Council, a copy of which can be found below.
