St John's keep their unbeaten record going

1st October 2015
St John's were in action again last night in the WEST Football League.  On a cool evening they played title rivals Bridgewater in a closely fought contest.

St John's started the game on the front foot passing the ball around confidently.  Bridgewater were defending well with breaks into the St John's half.  St John's took the lead, a few minutes into the game, with a good strike by Jakub Zych.  This filled the team with confidence and further chances came but centre forward Robert Hildrew was unable to beat the Bridgewater goalkeeper.  Just before the half time whistle a speculative shot crept past St John's goalkeepr, Nev Tumba, to draw the scores level 1-1.

At half time Luis Costa came on as sub to replace Charlie Cook.  This brought  solidity and calm to the defence.

Within the first minute of the second half Nev Tumba was called into action with a fantastic save to a stinging shot by the Bridgewater forward.  This stung St John's into action and from there on in they were constantly on the attack.  Great efforts by Jack Dunn, Mason Cooper brought good saves from the Bridgewater goalkeeper.  The attacks kept coming but St John's were guilty of poor finishing and were unable to add to their tally.  The final whistle came with the score remaining 1-1.
A thoroughly enjoyable game with the top two teams sharing the spoils, leaving Bridgewater at the top of the league, having played a game more.
